Quarterly Updates: Texans extend lead to 24-14 over Browns with pair of Stroud touchdown passes

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is now tied for the rookie playoff record for passing touchdowns in a game, and we’re only through one half of play.

Stroud’s third passing score of Saturday’s game (and the first half) came late in the second quarter on a 37-yard connection with tight end Dalton Schultz that extended Houston’s lead to 24-14, the same advantage held at halftime. He also holds the most passing yards (236) by a rookie in the first half of a playoff game since play-by-play data began being tracked in 1991.

Six different Texan receivers have hauled in at least one pass on Saturday, and that marked Schultz’s first reception of the game. Wide receiver Nico Collins leads Houston with four receptions for 86 yards at halftime.

This is just the latest installment of Stroud putting up record numbers in his rookie campaign, and through one half of play, it appears that his team is well on its way to avenging an embarrassing Week 16 loss to Cleveland here in the wild card round.
