I TRIED MAKING MY OWN MAKEUP AT HOME

I TRIED MAKING MY OWN MAKEUP AT HOME

I’ve been seeing a bunch of DIY makeup videos all over Instagram for a while now, but do they really work? I could never really tell. One fine Sunday, I decided to put all of them to a test. Long story short, I was pleasantly surprised! These hacks are tried and tested, and definitely worth a try. Check them out!

1. CINNAMON LIP PLUMPER

This was one recommended by the makeup maven, Huda Kattan herself. She suggests taking any old bottle of vaseline and adding about ten drops of cinnamon essential oil to it, mixing it well and applying it on your lips for 5 minutes. I have to say, this worked insanely well and gave me super plump lips in a jiffy. It does tingle quite a bit, so if you have a low pain tolerance, I would suggest adding fewer drops of cinnamon oil. Don’t forget to do a patch test to see how your skin responds to it before going all the way!

2. KAJAL

This DIY recipeis courtesy of my Nani, who rocks a bold kajal every day. I had to take 2 bowls of the same height and place a steel plate on top of the bowls, using them like a stand. Then, I took a lit diya and placed it under the steel plate and heated a couple of almonds on the plate for no more than three minutes for each almond. After the almonds are heated, they release oils which create the black soot that is essentially used as kohl. Add a few drops of almond oil and you have deep black, homemade kajal. While I loved making this at home, it wasn’t entirely smudge-free or suitable for long-wear, but it was still a pretty decent kajal.

4. LIPSTICK

This one’s a must try for all lipstick lovers. I just had to melt any non-toxic crayon in the microwave along with one spoon of coconut oil and a lil’ bit of vaseline for hydration and mix it well. After letting it set in a clean container, your DIY lipstick is ready to be used. The best part about this DIY is that you can create any colour of lipstick that you want. You can even custom make your own signature shade, isn’t that pretty cool?

5. MAKEUP REMOVER

If you ever run out of makeup remover, you can always DIY one right at home. Take a half of a peeled cucumber and crush it in a mortar and pestle. Follow that up by adding two tablespoons of milk and use a cotton pad to apply the same. This homemade makeup remover is also ideal for acne-prone skin.
